Kelly, Beauperthuy and Anderson win titles in Gi and double up at the Veterans Grappling World Championships

BAKU Azerbaijan – After a phenomenal performance yesterday in No-Gi, earning four gold medals, the U.S. contingent at the Veterans Grappling World Championships continued their success in Gi. The four-man group brought home three more golds and a bronze.
Michael Kelly (Hebron, Ill.) defeated two Azerbaijanis, Zaur Ashumov, 6-1, and Zaur Mediyev, 2-1, to claim his second World title in as many days in the 41-45 age division at 84 kg.
In the 100 kg+ weight class in the 41-45 age division, Gabe Beauperthuy (Colorado Springs Colo.) earned his gold with a 4-2 decision over Manuel Basco Martinez of Spain. This marks Beauperthuy’s eighth Veterans World Grappling gold medal.
Jeff Anderson (Zeeland, Mich.) received a forfeit to claim the title at 100 kg in the 51-55 age division. It is his fifth Veterans World Grappling gold.
Rich Tado (Fox River Grove, Ill.) took bronze at 77 kg in the 51-55 age division. He dropped his bout to Albertas Kaseta of Lithuania, 1-0, in overtime.
