Last week, USA Wrestling published an article with a list of wrestlers who qualified for the 2019 NCAA Div. I National Championships who had seen Greco-Roman success before college. We are doing a follow-up on how those wrestlers finished last week at the NCAA Championships in Pittsburgh.
Headlining the list of former successful Greco-Roman wrestlers by bringing home titles were Fargo Greco-Roman champions Zahid Valencia of Arizona State at 174 and Bo Nickal of Penn State at 197.
Making their way to the finals but and placing second were Fargo champion and Cadet Pan American gold medalist Daton Fix of Oklahoma State at 133, three-time Fargo champion Joey McKenna of Ohio State at 141, and Fargo champion Mark Hall of Penn State at 174.
Also earning NCAA Div. I All-American honors were former Cadet and Junior World Team member Dom Demas (Oklahoma), two time Fargo champions Ronnie Bresser (Oregon State) and Roman Bravo-Young (Penn State), and Fargo champions Rayvon Foley (Michigan State), Hayden Hidlay (NC State), Ryan Deakin (Northwestern), Larry Early (Old Dominion), Chance Marsteller (Lock Haven), and Matt Stencel (Central Michigan). In all, there were 20 All-Americans who had prominent Greco-Roman achievements during their careers.
Below is a list, broken down by weight, of NCAA qualifiers with some notable Greco achievements followed by their NCAA record, their place (if in the top eight), and number of team points they scored.
