Defending champion Grand View powers 10 into semifinals for commanding lead at NAIA Nationals

DES MOINES, Iowa - Grand View University, which came into as a seven-time defending national champion, pushed 10 wrestlers into the semifinals to take a commanding lead at the 2019 NAIA National Wrestling Championships on Friday.
The Vikings ended the day with 137 points, a whopping 80.5 points ahead of second place Life University, which has 56.5 points. All 12 of the Grand View wrestlers who entered this morning are still alive in the tournament.
Grand View’s semifinalists are: No. 1 Justin Portillo (125) , No. 1 Shiquan Hall (133) , No. 1 Evan Hansen (197), No. 2 Eric Clarke (141) , No. 2 Devin Reynolds (149), No. 3 Artie Bess (184), No. 5 Josh Wenger (149) , No. 5 Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer (157), No. 5 Ryan Niven (165) and No. 5 Lawton Benna (174).
Returning national champions who have reached the semifinals include Grand View’s Hansen, plus Nosomy Pozo of Life (157) and Lucas Lovvorn of Baker (174).
Rounding out the top five teams after day one are Lindsey Wilson in third, Indiana Tech in fourth and Reinhardt in fifth.
All 10 No. 1 seeds were able to reach the semifinal rounds after quarterfinal victories.
2018 NAIA national champion Hayden Lee of the Cumberlands was beaten in the quarterfinals by Indiana Tech’s No. 2 seed Sawyer Miller, 3-1.
The semifinal round begins at 10:00 a.m. CT, with the Championship finals set for 7:00 p.m. The event is being broadcast on TrackWrestling, with the championship matches on ESPN3.
