by Mike Willis, USA Wrestling
Two-Time World bronze medalist, Nick Gwiazdowski will be competing for the 125 kg World Team spot at Final X: Rutgers.
Final X, the last step in the Senior World Team Trials process, will take place Saturday, June 8, at the Rutgers Athletic Center (RAC) in Piscataway, N.J. There are five Greco-Roman, five women’s freestyle, and three men’s freestyle matches scheduled to take place.
Next Saturday, June 15, the remaining weight classes will be settled at Final X: Lincoln.
The winners of these best-of three-series will represent Team USA at the World Champions in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, this September.
Returning men’s freestyle World champions, Kyle Dake (79 kg), and David Taylor (86 kg) were originally slated for this event, but due to injuries will not be able to compete. Dake has requested a wrestle-off with his opponent, Alex Dieringer at a later date. Taylor did not request a wrestle-off, and will look to be back for the 2020 Olympic Team Trials.
