Southern Scuffle finals set, as Penn State puts eight into finals to extend lead over Oklahoma State

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – No. 1 Penn State has placed eight wrestlers in the finals, including four past NCAA champions, and extended their lead to 13.5 points over Oklahoma State after the semifinals were concluded on Wednesday.
At 157 pounds, two Penn State wrestlers will battle for the title, as NCAA champion Jason Nolf takes on teammate Bo Pipher.
NCAA champions Vincenzo Joseph (165), Mark Hall (174) and Bo Nickal (197) join Nolf in the finals, along with teammates Nick Lee (141), Shakur Rasheed (184) and Anthony Cassar (285).
The Nittany Lions placed 11 wrestlers into the semifinals, dropping three bouts during the session.
Tuesday night, Oklahoma State was 10.5 points behind Penn State. The Cowboys have placed five into the championship finals: Nick Pinccininni (125), Daton Fix (133), Kaden Gfeller (149), Joe Smith (174) and Derek White (285),.
Fans are looking forward to the two Penn State vs. Oklahoma State finals.
At 174 pound finals, 2017 NCAA champion and 2018 NCAA runner-up Hall battles Smith, a two-time All-American who was a redshirt last year. Smith made his return to competition at the Reno Tournament of Champions in December.
At heavyweight, Oklahoma State heavyweight Derek White will battle Anthony Cassar of Penn State, who has moved up to heavyweight this year. White beat Penn State’s two-time All-American Nick Nevills in the semifinals, 4-0.
Iowa State was third, Stanford in fourth and Lock Haven in fifth after the semifinals concluded. Stanford is the only other team with more than one finalist, pushing Real Woods (141) and Nathan Traxler (197) into championship bouts.
The Southern Scuffle is being broadcast live by FloWrestling, with the championship finals set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
