USA Wrestling is proud to announce that the Massachusetts Wrestling Association (MWA) has been named the state affiliate of USA Wrestling in Massachusetts. The MWA has been a long-standing youth wrestling organization in Massachusetts, and now as the affiliate of USA Wrestling will expand its reach beyond just youth folkstyle wrestling.

To date, USA Wrestling athlete membership in Massachusetts is up over 250%, as many MWA clubs have chartered with USA Wrestling for the first time in their existence.

MWA Executive Board Members who have been involved in the transition include Bior Guigni, Brett Poirier, Dwayne Miller, Todd Darling and others. Poirier, who is the chairperson of the MWA, attended the 2018 State Leaders Summit in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he interfaced with many other state leaders in USA Wrestling.

“We’re excited about MWA’s involvement, as already we are seeing increased participation, involvement and membership in Massachusetts,” said USA Wrestling’s Director of State Services Tony Black. “Dwayne and Desi Kaplan from Kapwrestling, along with Derek Sikora, ushered this process along, and we’re confident that growth of USA Wrestling in Massachusetts will continue.”

“The Massachusetts Wrestling Association, as a state wide collaborative of coaches, has been developing a strong folkstyle program for the last 9 years in order bring more value, competition, and growth opportunities to the athletes and leaders of our membership,” said Dwayne Miller, USA Wrestling Liaison for the MWA Executive Board. “We are truly honored to be working with Derek, Tony and all of USA Wrestling as the state affiliate organization. We are excited about partnering with other state organizations in order to bring Massachusetts athletes the resources to grow and compete both regionally and nationally in all styles of wrestling.”
