Clark, Beauperthuy, Anderson win Veterans Gi gold medals at Grappling Worlds in Kazakhstan

ASTANA, Kazakhstan – The United States entered three athletes in the Veterans Gi competition at the UWW Grappling World Championships on Friday. The USA came home with three gold medals.
Claiming titles in Gi Grappling among the Veterans (35-years-old and above) were
• Travis Clark of Fort Worth, Texas (All American Wrestling Club) at Over 100 kg in the 35-39 years division
• Gabe Beauperthuy of Colorado Springs, Colo. (UTC) at Over 100 kg in the 40-44 years division
• Jeff Anderson of Zeeland, Mich. (Chicago WC) at 100 kg in the 45 and over division
Team USA had an impressive 6-0 record on Friday, and placed fourth in the overall Veterans Gi Grappling team race, even with just three entries.
Clark beat Evgeniy Belyshev of Russia, 3-0 and scored a submission over Amirzhan Tezikbayev of Kazakhstan to win his gold medal. It was his second Veterans World gold medal of the week, as he was also champion in Veteran No-Gi on Thursday.
Beauperthuy had a pair of decisions, beating a pair of athletes from Kazakhstan, by stopping Tynys Bissaliyev, 3-0 and Aleksandr Astapov, 5-0. Like Clark, he was also a No-Gi Veterans World champion on Thursday. This is the third straight year that Beauperthuy swept both styles in Grappling at the Veterans Worlds.
Anderson also beat two opponents from Kazakhstan, beating Ikhsatov Batyrbek, 6-1 and Khon Atama, 5-3. A long-time competitor in USA Wrestling’s Masters wrestling programs, Anderson was the 2017 Masters Ironman champion last year.
In the two-day Veterans competition, the United States has won seven medals, including six gold medals. Also winning a No-Gi Veterans gold medal on Thursday was John Morgan at 71 kg in the 35-39 years division, with Aaron Johnson winning a silver medal at 62 kg in the 40-44 years division.
Gameness was the Gi sponsor for the USA Gi Grappling team for the second straight year. USA Wrestling thanks Gameness for their support.
The Senior Division begins at the Grappling World Championships on Saturday with the No-Gi tournament, followed by the Gi competition on Sunday. The U.S. team is coached by Eddy Ellis of Washington.
The entire tournament is being streamed live on FloGrappling. Astana is 10 hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone.
