Two USA Wrestling job opportunities: Communications Intern and a Partnership Marketing intern

USA Wrestling, the national governing body for wrestling in the United States, is seeking two qualified and motivated interns to work at its Colorado Springs, Colo. national headquarters. One of the openings is in the Communications department and the other is in the Corporate Partnership/Marketing department.


The internships are full-time positions, with 40 hours per week at the national headquarters. Additional overtime would have to be approved in advance. The pay rate is $11.10/hour.


Candidates do not have to be currently enrolled at a college to apply. However, these internships could be used by students who wish to use this to fulfill an academic requirements, depending upon the specifics of their academic programs.


These internship are scheduled from January 7, 2019 through May 31, 2019, but this could be adjusted based upon the availability of qualified applicants.

COMMUNICATIONS INTERN


The intern will assist on numerous communication and editorial projects and activities, including:

1) Writing and editing USA Wrestling publications, including newspaper USA Wrestler.

2) Assisting with the copy creation for USA Wrestling’s web page - TheMat.com

3) Assist with USA Wrestling’s communications use of various social media, including the ability to produce photography, videos and graphics, as necessary.

4) Promoting and marketing the events and activities of USA Wrestling to the press and general public, through press releases, media contacts and other strategies.

5) Handling requests from journalists and media outlets concerning the events, activities and athletes involved with USA Wrestling. Contacting local and national media with story ideas on wrestling.

6) Creating biographies and compiling statistics on the top athletes in the nation on all age levels, for use in communications activities, as well as other administrative duties.

7) Developing new ideas on ways to communicate information and promote the sport of wrestling to the public and the media.

8) Assisting on any other projects which will help forward the goals and missions of USA Wrestling, as determined by the supervisor and/or the Executive Director of USA Wrestling.


Experience and skills desired include writing, editing, interpersonal communications, computer literacy, photography, videography, graphics and design, time management and other communications activities.


The intern will report to Gary Abbott, Director of Communications/Special Projects for USA Wrestling.

PARTNERSHIP MARKETING INTERN

Job Description

The Partnership Marketing Intern is responsible for supporting and executing a broad range of marketing and communication projects. Partnership Marketing Intern will plan and execute a combination of internal and external communications associated with brands (both USAW departments and sponsors) that will be used to further our marketing efforts to better reach our members, the wrestling community, and the sports community at large, as well as managing sponsor engagement at regional and national events.

Partnership Marketing Intern will report to Director of Corporate Partnerships. This intern will contribute to the development of publications and website pages, facilitate marketing campaigns, schedule meetings, create timelines, execute digital communication plans, and help plan event related activations. Partnership Marketing Intern may also write and distribute press releases and assist in the development of digital content.

Essential Functions

• Oversee execution of sponsor activations (signage, booths, experiential marketing, etc.) at USAW regional and national events

• Work with Events department to ensure efficiencies in shipping and operations, taking all sponsor and department needs into account

• Identify new event engagement opportunities for sponsors to enhance both the value to the sponsor and the fan experience

• Assist marketing staff with the strategic planning of digital communications (social media, email, podcast, website, etc.) for USAW sponsors, as well as internal USAW departments (Events, State Services, Coaches Ed., Fundraising, etc.)

• Initiate the development of marketing collateral and content by drafting creative briefs

• Using analytics tools, effectively monitor, track and report results of digital media efforts for each sponsor and department

• Prepare collateral and other marketing communication materials as needed for Events and other USAW departments

• Occasional event travel to assist in the execution of event specific activations

• Develop and maintain media contacts list for possible collaborations with outside organizations to enhance reach of USAW communication efforts

• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and major social media platforms

• Resourceful self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively; able to accomplish projects with little supervision

• Strong time management skills; comfortable with frequent change and short lead times

• Team player – works to ensure team goals are met or exceeded

• Either possess a Bachelor’s Degree or be in pursuit of, preferably in the areas of Marketing, Communications, Hospitality/Sport Management

• Ability to work successfully with some ambiguity, some weekends/non-standard hours

• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously

• Excellent analytical skills

• Develop timelines

• Meet deadlines

• Outstanding organization; meeting coordination, event planning, publication scheduling

• Graphic design skills a plus
