Ohio State wrestler Tomasello earns B1G Outstanding Sportsmanship Distinction

COLUMBUS, Ohio –Nathan Tomasello (wrestling) and Jincy Dunne (women’s ice hockey) were recognized by the Big Ten Conference as Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners on Thursday (June 7).
One member of each varsity sports team on every Big Ten campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree. From each university's list, two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected. All of the Sportsmanship Award honorees have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these student-athletes must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Tomasello became just the 15th wrestler in Big Ten history to capture four individual conference crowns, scaling the podium once again in 2018. He also combined with fellow seniors Bo Jordan and Kyle Snyder to represent the first teammate trio in NCAA history to each earn their fourth All-America status in the same season. Tomasello recorded a 16-2 season record while competing the entire year with a torn ACL. For his career, he garnered an overall mark of 100-8 and seized the 2016 NCAA title at 125 pounds.. Tomasello’s success extended off the mat as well, named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar twice and NWCA All-Academic honoree thrice while completing two degrees.
Dunne provided not only the defensive backbone for the Buckeyes last season, she also earned the alternate captain title midway through the season thanks to the example she set, on and off the ice. She claimed a spot on the American Hockey Coaches Association All-American Second Team, All USCHO Third Team, and Western Collegiate Hockey Association First Team after a season where she tallied 24 assists, tied for the team lead. Off the ice, she’s been named to the Academic All-Big Ten team the last two years, and she’s been an OSU Scholar-Athlete all three of her years in Columbus.
