St. Cloud State names Bomstad 2017-18 Senior Athlete of the Year

St. Cloud State University Intercollegiate Athletics has named Larry Bomstad (Lake Lillian, Minn./Atwood-Cosmos-Grove City H.S.) and Andrea Bryson (Appleton, Wisc./North H.S.) as its 2017-18 Senior Athletes of the Year.
The Senior Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to the Huskies' top male and female senior student-athletes. The award is determined by a vote of the Athletic Department's coaches and staff.
A three-time NCAA Division II All-American, Bomstad completed an outstanding collegiate career this winter by helping leadthe Huskies to the 2018 NCAA Division II national team championships.
Bomstad placed second in the 157-pound bracket at the NCAA DII championships and finished his senior campaign at SCSU with a 29-5 record. His year also included first place finishes at the Dakota Wesleyan tournament and the 2017 Husky Open, where he received the John Oxton Outstanding Wrestler Award.
An NWCA All-Academic award winner in 2017-18, Bomstad also helped the Huskies win the 2018 NCAA Division II Super 3 Regional title, the 2018 NWCA Division II National Duals title and the team's seventh consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship.
A technology management major at SCSU, Bomstad has been part of three NCAA national championship teams (2015, 2016 and 2018) and one NCAA runner-up team (2017) during his collegiate career.
A standout on the SCSU women's swimming and diving team over the past four seasons, Bryson capped a sterling collegiate career with the Huskies in 2017-18. A team captain, Bryson was named the 2017-18 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Swimmer of the Year.
An All-NSIC Academic award winner during her time at SCSU, Bryson is a multiple All-America award recipient and was named a team MVP this winter, earned the SCSU Excellence in Leadership award in 2017-18 and was selected as an NSIC Honor Student Athlete Award winner in 2018.
At the 2018 NSIC championships, Bryson won the 50-yard freestyle in an NSIC record time of 23:23, the 200-yard freestyle in and NSIC record time of 1:50.00, the 500-yard freestyle in an NSIC record time of 4:58.39 and the 100-yard freestyle at the2018 championships. A qualifier for the NCAA championships, Bryson earned All-America status in the 100 freestyle event and was part of the SCSU team that gained All-America honors in the 200 freestyle relay.
A chemistry major at SCSU, Bryson was recently named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 Division II At-Large and Academic All-America team.
Located in Central Minnesota along the oak-crowned west bank of the Mississippi River in the city of St. Cloud, Minn., St. Cloud State University sponsors 19 varsity intercollegiate athletic programs. The Huskies compete at the NCAA Division I level in men's hockey (National Collegiate Hockey Conference) and women's hockey (Western Collegiate Hockey Association), while its NCAA Division II programs hold memberships in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (men's swimming) and the Central Collegiate Ski Association (Nordic ski).
