In the House: 2x Olympic champ Smith, Olympic medalists Paulson and Martinez and other Olympians in FargoDome

The list of wrestling celebs continues to grow on the floor of the Fargodome, as we enter day two of the event, with three different tournaments held on the same day.
Two-time Olympic champion and four-time World champion John Smith, the head coach at Oklahoma State, is in the house. He will be helping coach Daton Fix in the UWW Junior World Team Special Wrestle-off this afternoon. Besides coaching Olympic and World freestyle teams for men, Smith was a Women’s World Team coach last year.
Smith joins Olympic champion Kyle Snyder as Olympic champions in the house so far.
Another Olympic medalist, 1996 Olympic Greco-Roman silver medalist Brandon Paulson, is working again with the Minnesota teams in Fargo. Paulson was also a World silver medalist, and has become one of the top coaches in the international styles.
1984 Olympic Greco-Roman bronze medalist Jim Martinez, who is among the coaches for Team Arizona, has been on site this week.
Another World medalist and two-time Olympian Shawn Sheldon, who has coached Team Florida for many years, is on the floor coaching in Fargo this weekend.
Paulson and Sheldon join Leigh Jaynes as World medalists seen so far here in Fargo.
There are a number of Olympians who are among those at the Fargodome. Daniel Dennis, a member of the 2016 U.S. Olympic freestyle team, is in the house, as well as 2008 Olympian Doug Schwab, a two-time World Team member who is also the head coach at the University of Northern Iowa. Add in 2008 Greco-Roman Olympian Ike Anderson, a Team Colorado coach, is in Fargo again this year. Then there is Rob Eiter, a 1996 Olympian in freestyle and a multiple World Team member, who is working with Maryland wrestlers.
They join 2008 Olympian Ben Askren on the list of athletes who have competed at the Olympics.
Along with John Smith, we have seen World champion Kristie Davis, Sammie Henson and Kyle Snyder.
World Team members are all over the place. There is the Betterman family, Deanna Betterman and her husband Joe Betterman, who have competed for Team USA at the Senior World Championships. Joe Betterman is the state chairperson in Colorado and Deanna Betterman (maiden name Rix) also helps coach the delegation.
Tom Erikson, a World Team member in freestyle, is helping coach with Team Arkansas and is head coach at Lyon College. Another past freestyle World Team member Steve Marianetti, an NCAA champion for Illinois, serves as head coach at Elmhurst College and works with Team Illinois.
They join Reece Humphrey, Veronica Carlson, Brent Metcalf as World Team members in the house.
The first four-time Div. I NCAA champion, Oklahoma State’s Pat Smith, is the coach with Team Arkansas. Two-time NCAA champions Gabe Dean of Cornell and Chris Perry of Oklahoma State also here. We also saw Derek Moore, an NCAA champion for Cal-Davis and former freestyle wrestler for Army WCAP, in the coaches corner. Cornell’s NCAA champion Troy Nickerson, the head coach at the Univ. of Northern Colorado, has also been spotted.
A pair of NCAA champions from Minnesota, Jared Lawrence and Jayson Ness, are among the coaches here with Team Minnesota. Andrew Howe, who won his NCAA title for Wisconsin but also made the NCAA finals for Oklahoma, is coaching with Team Illinois. Add in Cody Brewer, an NCAA champion for Oklahoma, who also is coaching here in Fargo.
All these NCAA champion join Yianni Diakomihalis and Mark Munoz as NCAA champions in Fargo.
The NCAA Div. I head coaches are showing up in big numbers. Along with Smith and Schwab, we have seen Troy Steiner of Fresno State, Zach Tanelli of Columbia, Jeremy Spates of SIU-Edwardsville, Roger Kish of host North Dakota State are among those we have seen here. They join previously mentioned John Smith (Oklahoma State) and Chris Ayres (Princeton).
The Div. I assistant coaches are also showing up, with Zach Esposito of Oklahoma State, Mike Dixon of Indiana, Nate Engel of Stanford, Ryan Morningstar of Iowa and Drew Headlee of Pittsburgh. There are more and we will continue to list them.
The host of coaches here are at all divisions, with head coaches such as Tom Carr of Central Christian, Danny Song of Case Western and Jeff Breese of Lake Erie. Assistant coaches are also in the house, including Eli Hale of Central Oklahoma
Another WCWA women’s college head coach was spotted, Brian Jackson of Missouri Baptist, who joins women’s college head coaches Kristie Davis (Emmanuel), Donnie Stephens (Cumberlands) Ashley Sword (Life), Aaron Meister (Wayland Baptist), Sam Schmitz (McKendree), Shauna Kemp (University of Jamestown) and Sarah Bollinger (Southwestern College) in the Dome.
Others we have identified National Team members Shauna Kemp and Julia Salata and two-time Veterans World champion Chris Brown.
We will keep them coming all week long.
