Northeastern Oklahoma A&M leads over Iowa Central as semifinals set at NJCAA Nationals

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Northeastern Oklahoma A&M held a 12.5 point lead over defending champion Iowa Central after the first day of the NJCAA National Championships at the Mid America Center on Friday.
This race won’t be determined for sure until Saturday. Northeastern Oklahoma has nine wrestlers still alive in the draw, but just two in the semifinals. Iowa Central, with six wrestlers left in the field, pushed five into the semifinals. If Iowa Central has a strong semifinal round, Northeastern Oklahoma will need to go on a run in the consolation rounds to keep the pace.
Northeastern Oklahoma has 99 points, with Iowa Central at 86.5 points. In third is Clackamas with 75 points, led by four semifinalists and three more in the consolations. Iowa Western is next with 62 points, with fifth place a tie between Ellsworth and Western Wyoming with 61 points.
Returning champions with a chance to repeat include Todd Small of Iowa Central (133) and Wyatt Jordan of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (165). Small won his title last year at 125 pounds, while Jordan was at 165 pounds.
