KENT, Ohio – Kent State’s Kyle Conel will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.  Conel will earn his bachelor’s degree in computer science this month.  At a later time, he will reevaluate his future in wrestling.

“I’ve been battling with an injury for a while,” Conel said on Twitter. “I should have had it checked out sooner but I didn’t. I’ve decided to choose my health and will be undergoing surgery that will end my season. I will be reevaluating my future in this sport and am doubtful I will continue after this.”

In March of 2018, Conel capped off a 30-win season with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships in Cleveland.  Starting the tournament in the pigtail round, he went 6-1 with two victories over the No. 1 seed and wins over the Nos. 8 and 9 seeds.

Earning success in the classroom as well, Conel is a two-time MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete and a two-time member of the NWCA All-Academic Team.
