USA Wrestling’s Associated Styles Ad-Hoc Committee has voted to include the upcoming World Championships events as part of the new Masters Ironman standings, which was developed in 2017 to promote and celebrate USA Wrestling’s Masters competitors in all of the recognized styles of wrestling.

This will be the second update of the Masters Ironman standings, which now includes the Masters results from the Beach Nationals in North Carolina as well as the Grappling Masters event in California.

For National-level events, champions get 10 points, Second Place gets 7 points, Third Place gets 4 points and Fourth Place gets 1 point.

The Associated Styles Ad-Hoc Committee has voted to double the points scored for World Championships, giving World champions 20 points, World silver medalists 14 points, World bronze medalists 8 points and World fourth-place finishers (or fifth if there are two bronze medalists) two points.

Masters wrestlers have the opportunity to compete in five different styles this year: folkstyle, Greco-Roman, freestyle, Grappling and Beach Wrestling.

There are two more chances to score points in the Masters Ironman standings for 2017, the Veterans Freestyle and Greco-Roman World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, October 10-15 and the results in the Veterans Division from the Grappling World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, October 18-21.

Holding his lead in the standings is Joe Raia of the Chicago Wrestling Club with 27 points. Raia won Masters National titles in Greco-Roman and freestyle, and was second in folkstyle, competing in Division C.

Two athletes follow with 24 points, Rudy James of the Apple Valley WC and Octavius Bellamy of the Chicago Wrestling Club. James was a Masters freestyle champion and placed second in folkstyle and Greco-Roman, competing in Division B. Bellamy was a Masters folkstyle champion and placed second in Greco-Roman and freestyle, competing in Division B. There are 18 athletes tied for fourth place with 20 points.

The final Masters Ironman standings will be posted in late October.
