The United States will have a strong and experienced team at the 2017 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Cheboksary, Russia, Dec. 1-2.

Eight members of the World Cup team are past U.S. World or Olympic Team members, along with three others with extensive age-group World experience. The Women’s World Cup is the annual international dual meet championship hosted by United World Wrestling.

Leading the team is three-time World champion and five-time World medalist Adeline Gray (Kingston, Pa./New York AC), who will compete at 75 kg/165 lbs. Gray, who was a member of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team, missed the 2017 season, making a comeback to the mat in late October. In addition to her Senior World titles, Gray also won University and Junior World titles earlier in her career.

Two-time World silver medalist and five-time World Team member Alli Ragan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids/OTC) will compete at 60 kg/130 lbs. Ragan was a two-time Junior World bronze medalist.

2016 Olympian and 2017 World Team member Haley Augello (Lockport, Ill./New York AC) will compete at 53 kg/116.5 lbs. Augello is a past Cadet World champion

Two-time Senior World Team member and two-time Junior World champion Victoria Anthony (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) will compete at 48 kg/105.5 lbs.

Three other members of the 2017 U.S. Senior World Team will also compete, Mallory Velte (Sacramento, Calif./Titan Mercury WC/Burnaby Mountain WC) at 63 kg/138.75 lbs., Tamyra Mensah-Stock (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC/OTC) at 69 kg/152 lbs. and Victoria Francis (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC/OTC) at 75 kg/165 lbs.

The other Senior World Team member competing in Cheboksary is 2016 U.S. World Team member Sarah Hildebrandt (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC/OTC) at 55 kg/121 lbs.

Rounding out the U.S. lineup are Amy Fearnside (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC/OTC) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. Jacarra Winchester (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC/OTC) at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Kayla Miracle (Campbellsville, Ky./Sunkist Kids) at 58 kg/128 lbs.

Miracle has won three age-group World medals, while Fearnside and Winchester were University World medalists.

The United States has drawn into Group A at the Women’s World Cup, and will compete against Japan, Russia and Sweden in their pool dual meets. Group B will include China, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Mongolia.

There was no Women’s World Cup in 2016. The last Women’s World Cup was held in St. Petersburg, Russia in March of 2015, and the USA placed third in the eight-team field. Japan was the champion and Russia was the runner-up at the 2015 Women’s World Cup.

The United States is seeking its first Women’s World Cup victory since 2003, when the United States defeated Japan in the championship finals dual meet, 14-13.

U.S. fans can watch the Women’s World Cup live on Trackwrestling. Cheboksary is eight hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time.
