USA Wrestling will host its U.S. Grappling World Team Trials in Las Vegas, Nev., April 27-29 at the South Point Hotel and Casino.

This event, which determines the U.S. Senior team for the annual UWW Grappling World Championships, has traditionally had its largest turnout and most competitive field when the tournament has been hosted in Las Vegas.

It will be held alongside the Open Wrestling Championships, a celebration of wrestling which features nine different competitions coming together. This includes competition in numerous age levels and styles, going from youth to high school to Senior-level to the Masters division. Styles to be contested are freestyle, Greco-Roman, folkstyle and Grappling. There is competition available for both men and women, boys and girls.

The U.S. Grappling World Team Trials features the two recognized styles of UWW Grappling, with the Gi competition on Thursday, April 27 and the No-Gi division set for Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29. It is an Open competition, with no pre-qualification necessary.

Winners of the Senior division at the U.S. No-Gi Grappling World Team Trials will qualify to represent the United States at the 2017 Senior Grappling World Championships. Although United World Wrestling has not yet officially announced the location and date for the UWW Grappling Worlds, it is expected to be in Europe in the fall of 2017.

For all of the events, there is a substantial discount on the entry fee for those who book their hotel rooms at the South Point Casino Hotel. To get the discount, book your room first.

For the third straight year, the Grappling Clubs Cup will be awarded to the club which scores the most points at the Grappling Trials. Last year’s winner was Edge MMA & Fitness of Denver, Colo. Clubs will be required to submit their full roster of entries in advance of the tournament in order for points to be awarded.

Once again, the Grappling Military Cup will be awarded to the branch of the Armed Forces which scores the most points at the Grappling Trials. Grappling (and other forms of Combatives) are very popular within the U.S. military, and USA Wrestling wishes to recognize its contribution to the Grappling program. Last year’s winner was the U.S. Air Force.

Athletes who compete at the U.S. Masters National Championships in Greco-Roman and Freestyle on April 26-27 will have the opportunity to compete in the No-Gi division of the U.S. Grappling World Team Trials, April 28-29, giving them a chance to become an All-American in a third style of wrestling. A number of past U.S. Grappling Team members have also competed at the Masters level in wrestling.

Alternates will be determined based upon their placement at the U.S. Grappling World Team Trials in Las Vegas.
