Maroulis remains No. 1 as eight U.S. women appear in February UWW rankings

Eight U.S. women found a place in the World rankings released by United World Wrestling today with Olympic champion Helen Maroulis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Sunkist Kids) holding the highest ranking at No. 1 at 53 kg/116 lbs.
Maroulis became the first American woman to win Olympic gold in freestyle wrestling last August. The year prior she won her first World title in Las Vegas, Nev. at 55 kg/121 lbs. We have yet to see Maroulis compete since the Rio Games.
Alli Ragan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids), 2016 World silver medalist, remains at No. 2 in the rankings at 60 kg/132 lbs. Ragan last competed at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk, Russia in January, where she took home a bronze medal.
Six of the eight U.S. Women are ranked in the top 10 rankings of their weight class. Elena Pirozhkova (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC) remains No. 6 at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. She was fifth at this weight class at the Rio Olympics. Pirozhkova competed in the U.S. Open in Las Vegas in December, where she was a gold medalist. She last competed at 69 kg/152 lbs. in the Dave Schultz Memorial International in Colorado Springs, Colo. this past week, where she took home a bronze medal.
Next is three-time World Champion Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at No. 7 at 75 kg/165 lbs. Gray was seventh at the 2016 Olympics. She last wrestled at the Bill Farrell International in November, where she was a gold medalist.
Victoria Anthony (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) remains at No. 8 at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. She last competed at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk, Russia in January, where she did not medal.
Moving up one spot in the rankings to join Anthony at No. 8 is Tamyra Mensah (Katy, Texas/Titan Mercury) at 69 kg/152 lbs. Most recently, Mensah won a gold medal at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix. She was the first U.S. woman to win the tournament since 2010, when Kelsey Campbell was the 55 kg champion, and only the sixth U.S. Woman to ever win the Yarygin Grand Prix.
Also, moving up in the rankings at No. 14 is Sarah Hildebrant (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 55 kg. Hildebrandt, competed in the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix where she was a silver medalist.
Dropping four spots from last month’s rankings to claim a spot at No. 14 is Haley Augello (Lockport, Ill./New York AC) at 48 kg. Augello last competed internationally at the 2016 Olympic Games. She is now competing in college for No. 1 King University.
