VENTURA COUNTY STAR: Moorpark College reinstates wrestling program, hires coach
After an eight-year hiatus, wrestling returns this fall to Moorpark College in California for the 2017 season.
After a lengthy search, Lindley Kistler has been chosen to lead the Moorpark College wrestling program. Coach Kistler brings impressive credentials as a wrestler. He wrestled under two legendary coaches, Dan Gable at the University of Iowa and Bobby Douglas at Arizona State University. He was a two-time Olympic Trial qualifier and three-time member of Iowa’s Div. I National Championship Team. He was a three-time Conference placewinner and a two-time NCAA Div. I All-American.
Lindley was a member of the famous Kistler brothers wrestling family, which included NCAA Div. I All-American brothers Jackson, Harlan and Marty, all from Riverside, Calif.
Coach Kistler has coached at Temecula High School for three years, before moving to North Pennsylvania High School for seven years. His employment with Merck & Co., Inc. brought him back to Southern California, where he coached at Newbury High School for nine years and with the Tri-County All-Star team for four years.
“KIstler has proven himself as an excellent coach and tactician,” said Athletic Director Vance Manakas. “I’m excited to see his work as our Head Coach at Moorpark College.”
Coach Kistler understands the importance of acedemics as he was a National Honor Society member himself. He emphasizes life responsibilities. He has been married to Heidi for 29 years and they reside in Newbury Park. They have three daughters, Tara, Keila who graduated from Moorpark College and now attending UCLA and Kyrie who is graduating from Moorpark College and will be attending San Diego State University in the fall.
Coach Kistler has his work cut out for him, as we are developing the schedule, ordering new equipment and recruiting prospective student athletes and fundraising. Anyone interested in participating for Moorpark’s Wrestling Program should contact Coach Kistler at 805-208-0157.
