With the return of the U.S. Grappling World Team Trials to Las Vegas, held alongside the Open Wrestling Championships at the South Point Hotel, April 27-29, USA Wrestling is upgrading its awards for the tournament.

Awards given to the top three place winners in each weight class have been improved from previous years.

This year, there will be improved plaques for all three award winners, in an attractive design similar to a shield. In past years, only the champion received a plaque and the others in the top three received a medal.

The U.S. Grappling World Team Trials features the two recognized styles of UWW Grappling, with the Gi competition on Thursday, April 27 and the No-Gi division set for Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29. It is an Open competition, with no pre-qualification necessary.

Winners at the U.S. No-Gi Grappling World Team Trials will qualify to represent the United States at the 2017 Senior Grappling World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan in October.

With the growth of the tournament, USA Wrestling will provide team trophies to both the national champion club and the runner-up club, with the presentation of the Grappling Clubs Cups.

In the past, USA Wrestling provided a team award only to the champion club. The last two years, the winner of the Grappling Clubs Cup was Edge MMA & Fitness of Denver, Colo.

All clubs that would like to be entered in the Grappling Clubs Cup must turn in their official rosters to either Gary Abbott or Blair Green at the official registration and weigh-in. Points will be scored in both No-Gi and Gi Grappling.

Once again, the Grappling Military Cup will be awarded to the branch of the Armed Forces which scores the most points at the Grappling Trials. Grappling (and other forms of Combatives) are very popular within the U.S. military. USA Wrestling is proud to recognize its contribution to the Grappling program.

Last year’s winner was the U.S. Air Force. For this year’s award, Grapplers who are currently on active duty as well as Grapplers who are Veterans, can declare their military branch during registration and weigh-ins.

The event will be broadcast by FloGrappling and FloWrestling.

UWW Senior Grapplers are 20 years old and above. (Born: 1997 and before). There are eight weight classes for men and five weight classes for women on the Senior level. Weigh-ins will be in kilograms. The classes are:

Men: 62 kg/136 lbs., 66 kg/145.5 lbs., 71 kg/156 lbs., 77 kg/169.5 lbs., 84 kg/185 lbs., 92 kg/202.5 lbs., 100 kg/220 lbs., Over 100 kg/Over 220 lbs.
