The final weekend of January will be the busiest of the year for U.S. Senior-level athletes, as over 175 athletes will be competing at international competitions.

This weekend’s schedule will feature three U.S. teams on tour, a men’s freestyle team in Russia, Greco-Roman and men’s freestyle team in France and a women’s freestyle team in Brazil. USA Wrestling will also be hosting the annual Dave Schultz Memorial International Wrestling Championships at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. this weekend, with a large group of Senior wrestlers competing in all three styles.

A talented team of American men’s freestylers will compete at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, January 29-31. This is considered one of the toughest international tournaments held each year. 2012 Olympic champion Jake Varner (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) and 2015 World champion Kyle Snyder (Woodbine, Md./Titan Mercury WC) will enter at 97 kg/213 lbs. The Olympic Test Event will only feature women’s freestyle wrestling.

In addition to all of this international competition, the U.S. will host the annual Dave Schultz Memorial International in Colorado Springs, Colo., January 28-30, which features all three international styles. Athletes from the following nations are also expected to compete: Canada, Puerto Rico, Panama, Honduras, Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Mexico, Uzbekistan and Serbia.

In Greco-Roman, past U.S. World Team members Jake Fisher of the Minnesota Storm, Jake Clark of the Minnesota Storm and Cheney Haight of the New York AC are expected at the Dave Schultz Memorial. In men’s freestyle, past World Team members who are among the expected entries are Obe Blanc of the Titan Mercury WC and J.D. Bergman of the New York AC.
