Unranked Oregon State dominates No. 16 Central Michigan, 26-9

Mt. Pleasant, Mich. – Corey Griego and Amarveer Dhesi won by major decision and the Oregon State wrestling team dominated No. 16 Central Michigan 26-9 on Saturday in one of its best efforts of the season.
A redshirt sophomore, Griego defeated Jordan Ellingwood 10-2 to give the unranked Beavers (4-4) a commanding 19-9 lead with two matches remaining. Dhesi, a redshirt sophomore, then snapped a personal 3-match losing streak with a 10-2 win over Adam Robinson for four more team points to punctuate the victory.
It was OSU’s third win over a ranked opponent this season. They defeated No. 19 West Virginia and No. 25 Northern Iowa at the Northeast Duals back on Nov. 15.
The Beavers were aggressive throughout the dual, starting with a takedown by Ronnie Bresser just six seconds into his 125-pound match, an 8-3 victory over Brent Fleetwood.
Redshirt junior Joey Palmer followed with a win at 133 to double OSU’s lead to 6-0 and it doubled again to 12-0 when redshirt sophomore Jack Hathaway won by disqualification over Zach Horan at 141. Hathaway led 6-3 in the second period when Horan was DQed for an illegal hold that injured Hathaway’s right shoulder.
Senior Seth Thomas prevailed at 165 pounds for a 15-6 OSU advantage and Griego, redshirt sophomore Cody Crawford (197) and Dhesi outscored their opponents by a combined 22-4 to earn 10 team points in the final three weight classes.
Bresser, Palmer and Thomas finished the road trip with 2-0 records as the Beavers earned a split of their trip to Michigan. They lost 27-9 to the 13-ranked Michigan Wolverines at Ann Arbor on Thursday.
The Beavers host Wyoming at noon on Saturday in their next meet. It will be televised by Pac-12 Networks.
