Maroulis, Gray remain No. 1 in February UWW World women’s rankings

2015 World champions Helen Maroulis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Sunkist Kids) and Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) remain No. 1 in the UWW World women’s freestyle rankings for February 2016.


Gray, who won her third career World title and second in a row, remained on top of the 75 kg/165 lbs. World freestyle rankings. Gray went 7-0 in India’s Professional Wrestling League throughout December and recently earned the gold medal at the Olympic Test Event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Jan. 30.


Maroulis, who won her first World title in Las Vegas and is a three-time World medalist, holds the top ranking at 55 kg/121 lbs. Maroulis won a Special Wrestle-off in Iowa City on Jan. 22 to earn a spot on the U.S. Pan American Olympic Qualifier team.


2015 World bronze medalist Leigh Jaynes-Provisor (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) comes in at No. 5 at 60 kg/132 lbs. Jaynes-Provisor placed seventh at U.S. Senior Nationals in the 63 kg/138.75 lbs. weight class in December and recently fell to Alli Ragan, ranked No. 19 at 58 kg/128 lbs., at the Special Wrestle-off for the Pan American Olympic Qualifier Team at 58 kg/128 lbs.


Dropping down two spots since the December rankings to No.8 at 69 kg/152 lbs. is 2012 World champion and three-time World medalist Elena Pirozhkova (Colorado Springs, Colo. /Titan Mercury WC). Pirozhkova went down a weight class to 63 kg/138.75 lbs., where she won a gold at the UWW Golden Grand Prix Finals in Azerbaijan in November.


Three other members of the 2015 U.S. World Team are in the December rankings: Whitney Conder (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP), who is No. 13 at 53 kg/116.5 lbs., Alyssa Lampe (Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sunkist Kids), who is No. 12 at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., and Erin Clodgo(Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids), who is No. 20 at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.


Clodgo placed third at U.S. Senior Nationals and took home the bronze medal at the Olympic Test Event. Conder won a gold medal at the Bill Farrell International in New York City in November but recently lost in the Special Wrestle-off for the Pan American Olympic Qualifier to Maroulis.


Lampe went 2-3 in India’s Professional Wrestling League in December and recently took home a bronze medal at the Olympic Test Event, competing up a weight class at 53 kg/116.5 lbs.


Earning a No. 17 World ranking at 60 kg/132 lbs. is Jennifer Page, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Titan Mercury WC), who silver medals at the Dave Schultz Memorial Tournament in January and the U.S. Open in December, both at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.


Also earning a No. 17 ranking is Tamyra Mensah (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC) at 69kg/152 lbs. Mensah, who was not ranked in December, won U.S. Senior Nationals and earned a spot on the Olympic Pan Am Qualifying team after winning a Special Wrestle-off over 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Randi Miller.
