U.S. Junior athletes to compete at the Pan American Championships in Havana, Cuba, May 6-8

USA Wrestling will send men’s and women’s teams to Havana, Cuba to compete in the 2015 UWW Junior Pan American Championships, May 6-8.
All members of the men’s team will compete in the freestyle and Greco-Roman competitions. The Greco-Roman competition will begin on Wednesday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m., with finals occurring at 5:00 p.m. Men’s freestyle will begin on Friday, May 8 at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m. with finals.
Past Cadet and Junior World Team members on the men’s team include 2014 Cadet World Team member Gavin Teasdale, 2014 Cadet World Team member Ethan Andersen, 2013 Cadet Greco-Roman bronze medalist and 2014 Cadet World Team member Cade Olivas, 2013 & 2014 Cadet World Team member Taylor LaMont, 2012 Cadet World Team member Danny Boychuck and 2014 Cadet World Team member Nicholas Reenan.
Women’s freestyle will begin on Thursday, May 7 at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m. with finals.
The women’s team boasts a number of young stars, including: three-time Cadet World team member and 2013 Cadet World silver medalist Regina Doi; two-time Junior World team member Cody Pfau; 2014 Junior World team member and 2013 Cadet World team member Becka Leathers and 2014 Junior World silver medalist, 2013 Cadet World silver medalist and 2011 Cadet World team member Kayla Miracle.
Hou and Miracle were also members of the past Junior Pan American Championships teams. Hou won silver as a member of the 2014 team. Miracle won gold in 2013, defeating Betsabeth Sarcos of Venezuela in the finals.
Air Force wrestling head coach Sam Barber will serve as a coach for the U.S. Junior men’s Greco-Roman and freestyle team in Havana, along with Olympian Cary Kolat and Blair Academy coach Brian Antonelli.
“I’m looking forward to working with our nation’s elite-level wrestlers,” Barber said. “I am excited to go to Cuba, where wrestling is one of their biggest sports. It will be a high level of international competition that will offer a great challenge for our junior program.”
The women’s team will be coached by Campbellsville University head coach Lee Miracle and past Cadet World Team coach Danny Struck.
