ISTANBUL, Turkey – The United States won a pair of bronze medals, from Jordan Oliver (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and Keith Gavin (Charlottesville, N.C./Titan Mercury WC) at 86 kg/189 lbs. on the final day of the Yasar Dogu International on Sunday.

Gavin won his first three matches in dominant fashion, winning two by technical fall and outscoring his three opponents 30-0. In the semifinals, he drew 2013 World Military bronze medalist Radoslaw Marcinkiewicz of Poland, losing a tough 3-5 match.

He drew fellow American Jon Reader (Brookings, S.D./Sunkist Kids) in the bronze-medal bout. Gavin scored a point when Reader was on the shot clock, then scored a pushout and a takedown to win, 4-0. Both are past NCAA champions, with Gavin at Pitt and Reader at Iowa State.

Oliver opened with a lost to Evgeny Nedealko of Moldova, 2-8. When Nedealko reached the finals, Oliver was drawn back into repechage.

He defeated a pair of opponents from Turkey to advance to the bronze-medal round, where he edged 2014 World bronze medalist Bekzod Abdurakhmanov of Uzbekistan, 3-2. Abdurakmanov was an All-American at Clarion, and lives and trains in the United States most of the year.

Reader finished with a 3-2 record. He opened with wins over opponents from Turkey, before losing in the quarterfinals to eventual silver medalist Radoslaw Marcinkiewicz of Poland, 8-11. When Marcinkiewicz reached the finals, Reader was placed into repechage, and won his first match by technical fall, earning a spot in the medal match against Gavin.

At 70 kg/154 lbs., Adam Hall (New York, N.Y./Titan Mercury WC) had his offense going early, defeating opponents from Moldova and Russia and scoring 10 or more points in both matches. In the quarterfinals, he was defeated by Abdurakhmanov, 4-6, and eliminated when the Uzbek lost in the semifinals.

2012 Olympic bronze medalist Coleman Scott (Chapel Hill, N.C.) opened against two-time World champion Viktor Lebedev of Russia. Scott jumped to a 7-0 lead with takedowns and turns, but Lebedev made a furious comeback. A controversial caution against Scott tied the bout at 7-7 in favor of Lebedev, and when Scott tried to score late, he gave up points and lost 7-11.

Jimmy Kennedy (Ann Arbor, Mich./New York AC/Cliff Keen WC) won a bronze medal at 65 kg/145 lbs. on Saturday, giving the USA three medals for the weekend in a highly competitive event. World champion Russia brought its No. 1 team to compete, along with many other outstanding nations in the field.
