NCWA Championship Brackets to be revealed online tonight

DALLAS – In a first-of-its-kind event, the NCWA will reveal the pairings for the opening rounds of its 2015 Championships in a live online event tonight, March 4. Participants and fans can watch the national title brackets take form in a streamed broadcast beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT Wednesday from the NCWA offices in Dallas.

The Collegiate Cup Selection Show will use the same format for each bracket, beginning with the 125-pound weight class. Using polling data and consultation from NCWA conference chairmen and coaches, the association’s staffers will first place the top 16 seeded wrestles into their standard positions in the 64-man brackets in each weight class.
Then the wrestlers will be placed into their bracket positions in a blind draw similar to that seen on televised lottery drawings. Starting with the 125-pound bracket, the wrestlers’ names will be drawn from each weight class’ envelope, and then a ping pong ball will be drawn to determine his place in the bracket. Any pairings resulting in a matchup between conference mates will be re-drawn, as will any teammates who happen to be placed in the same quadrant.
Seeded wrestlers are not guaranteed first-round byes, and there will be no double-byes in the first round. When all the wrestlers are placed in a bracket, anyone who does not have an opponent drawn against them will receive a first-round bye.
The NCWA coaches approved this format for bracketing the national tournament at last year’s Vision Forum. This the first time the NCWA has used this process for building its tournament field.
