FLASH: Bravo-Young survives quarterfinal scare as Cadet freestyle semifinals set

FARGO, N.D. - Returning Cadet freestyle national champion Roman Bravo-Young staged an amazing second-period comeback against Colorado’s Andrew Alirez to reach the semifinals at 113 pounds at the Cadet Freestyle Nationals.
Alirez came out fast, and jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first period. Bravo-Young scored a second-period takedown, then began a series of bar-arm tilts to score 14 unanswered points for a 14-7 lead. He ended up winning the bout 18-7 and advanced to the Cadet freestyle semifinals against Carmen Ferrante of New Jersey.
The semifinals will be held during the 3:30 p.m. session at the Fargodome on Thursday.
Two wrestlers remain alive for the Cadet Triple Crown after winning quarterfinal matches and advancing to the semifinals: Colorado’s Mosha Schwartz (88 pounds), and Indiana’s Andrew Davison (182).
Another athlete going for a Triple Crown, Oregon’s Travis Wittlake (160), was defeated in the quarterfinals, falling to Victor Marcelli of Ohio, 10-8.
Another 2014 Cadet Nationals freestyle champion won in the quarterfinals, Malik Heinselman of Colorado at 94. He will face Kurt McHenry of Virginia in the semifinals.
The Junior freestyle division started on Thursday morning. A full report will be posted after the second session on the Junior freestyle results.
