3 wrestlers keep Triple Crown hopes alive as Cadet Nationals freestyle tourney kicks off

FARGO, N.D. – Three wrestlers kept their Triple Crown hopes alive with unbeaten starts in the Cadet Nationals freestyle competition on Wednesday at the Fargo Dome.
Colorado’s Mosha Schwartz (88 pounds), Oregon’s Travis Wittlake (160) and Indiana’s Andrew Davison (182) each moved into the quarterfinal round as they pursue coveted USA Wrestling Triple Crowns.
Schwartz, Wittlake and Davison captured Cadet Greco-Roman championships on Monday afternoon at the Fargo Dome.
Those wrestlers also won USAW Cadet Folkstyle Nationals titles in April in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Wittlake is looking to win a fifth USA Wrestling Triple Crown. Wittlake has won four Triple Crowns, including two in the Schoolboy division the previous two years.
Florida’s Max Wohlabaugh also started unbeaten on Day 1 in freestyle. Wohlabaugh has bumped up to 160 for the freestyle competition. Wohlabaugh won a Cadet Nationals Greco title at 152 on Monday.
Wittlake and Wohlabaugh could meet in the finals here in the Cadet freestyle class of 160.
Arizona’s Roman Bravo-Young remained on course to repeat as a double Cadet champion in Fargo. Bravo-Young reached the Cadet freestyle quarterfinal round at 113 pounds.
Colorado’s Malik Heinselman is looking to repeat as Cadet freestyle champion in Fargo. Heinselman won a Cadet Greco title here on Monday. He reached the Cadet freestyle quarters at 94 pounds.
Cadet World Team member Gable Steveson of Minnesota pushed into the quarters at 220 pounds.
The Cadet freestyle competition continues on Thursday with the finals set for 2 p.m. Friday.
All the matches will be shown on a live webcast on Flo Wrestling.
