Foster stops Askren in FPL 4 Main Event

Clayton Foster executed his gameplan near perfection in the FPL 4 main event as he defeated the always-dangerous Ben Askren, 10-3, at 190 pounds in Wales, Wis. Sunday afternoon.
The 2014 World Cup champion Foster jumped on top of Askren early, scoring four takedowns and a push out in the opening two periods of the match.
“That’s kind of how I pictured it coming in to it, high scoring like that” Foster said. “The first two periods I felt really go about the way I wrestled. Overall it was a pretty good match.”
Foster finished in fourth place at the 2014 World Team Trials in Madison, Wis. last May after an impressive runner-up showing at the U.S. Open in April. He was a NCAA runner-up for Oklahoma State University in 2011.
After being held scoreless for the first two periods, Askren managed a takedown and a push out in the final stanza, but would ultimately come up well short of Foster’s mark.
“I was trying to force him into a single leg situation, but he was very disciplined in his game plan. It was smart and that is exactly how he should have wrestled me. I really did think I would have more for him,” Askren said.
In addition to representing the U.S. at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, Askren was a two-time NCAA Champion for the University of Missouri. In the mma realm Askren has secured titles in the Welterweight division in both the Bellator Fighting Championships and One FC.
Currently one of the top 86 kg competitors on the U.S. freestyle circuit, Deron Winn edged out a victory over Max Askren 4-2 at 190 pounds in the co-main event of FPL 4.
Askren was a NCAA Champion in 2010 for the University of Missouri while Winn was a two-time JUCO National Champion for Meramec in 2008 and 2009.
Other FPL 4 victors included past Northern Iowa All-American Joe Colon, past NCAA Finals for Northwestern Jason Welch and past UW-Oshkosh wrestler Nazar Kulchytskyy.
