Keenan Hagerty (Blue Springs, Mo./Maryville University) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Hagerty, ranked No. 1 nationally at 149 pounds, went 4-0 to lead Maryville University to the Division II championship at the NWCA National Duals this past weekend in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The second-ranked Saints, in just the program’s fourth year of existence, edged No. 1 Notre Dame College 16-15 in the finals.

Hagerty defeated three ranked opponents and last year’s 157-pound runner-up en route to his 4-0 day.

He defeated Zach Vargo of Lake Erie College 12-3 and then downed No. 3 Terrel Wilbourn of Lindenwood 3-1 in overtime.

In the semifinals against St. Cloud State, the redshirt junior won 7-5 against the Huskies’ No. 8 Josh Howk. He then closed the tournament with a 7-3 win over No. 6 Andrew Bannister of Notre Dame.

Hagerty placed second at the NCAA Division II Championships as a true freshman in 2012 before finishing eighth in 2013.

Hagerty redshirted this past season before returning to the Maryville lineup this season. He is 19-1 this season for Hall of Fame Coach Mike Denney's squad.
