Clackamas CC puts seven in semis to lead NJCAA Nationals on day one

DES MOINES, IOWA - Led by seven wrestlers who qualified for the semifinals, top-ranked Clackamas CC of Oregon leads the team race at the NJCAA Junior College National Championships after the first day on Friday.
Clackamas has scored 92 points, a 15-point lead over second-place North Iowa Area CC with 77 points. North Iowa Area CC has placed four in the semifinals.
Returning national champion Adrian Salas of Clackamas CC has reached the semifinals at 184 pounds. The team has eight athletes left in the competition after the first day, with just one wrestler in the consolation rounds. Clackamas was third in last year’s NJCAA Nationals.
Rounding out the top five teams are Iowa Central CC in third with 70 points, defending national champion Northeast Oklahoma in fourth with 69 points and Ellsworth CC in fifth with 56.5 points.
All four of the returning NJCAA national champions who entered have reached the semifinals: Salas, plus Alfredo Rodriguez of Iowa Lakes CC at 125, Nosomy Pozo of North Iowa Area CC at 149 and Yoanse Mejias of North Iowa Area CC at 157.
The semifinals will begin at 10:30 a.m. Central on Saturday.
