Ellsworth tops NJCAA wrestling rankings, with Muskegon and Northern Iowa Area in top three

The Dec. 14 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rankings have been released.
Sitting on top of the rankings is Ellsworth CC of Iowa sits at No. 1 in the team rankings with 76 points. Ellsworth, which was seventh in the 2015 NJCAA Nationals, has a No. 1 ranked wrestler, Sadarriss Patterson at 174, and six individual wrestlers with rankings.
At No. 2 with 63 points is Muskegon CC of Michigan, with two No. 1 ranked individuals, TJ Barnes at 157 and LaVonte Perdue at 197. Muskegon was sixth in last year’s nationals.
At No. 3 is North Iowa Area CC, with 51 points. Top ranked athletes for NIACC are lightweights Paul Mascarenas at 125 and Shiquan Hall at 133.
Rounding out the top five are Clackamas CC of Oregon at No. 4 with 47 points and Iowa Lakes CC with 46 points.
Returning NJCAA individual champions who return with a No. 1 ranking are J.J. Alfau of Iowa Central CC at 141 pounds and Tyler Hoffman of Iowa Central CC at 184 pounds.
Returning NJCAA runners-up with No. 1 rankings are Oscar Ramirez of Iowa Western CC at 149 and Dajour Reece of North Idaho CC at 165 pounds.
