Team USA lands 12 wrestlers in April UWW freestyle rankings

The new United World Wrestling men’s freestyle rankings are now available.


There are 12 American athletes that are ranked among the top 20 men’s freestyle wrestlers in the world at their weight class.


The top ranked American remains Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids), who moved up to No. 2 at 74 kg/163 lbs after winning gold at the Alexander Medved International in Minsk, Belarus, Mar. 5-7. Burroughs was third at the 2014 World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and is a two-time World champion and an Olympic gold medalist.


The next highest ranked Americans are 2014 World bronze medalist Tervel Dlagnev (Columbus, Ohio/Sunkist Kids) who is No. 8 at 125 kg/275 lbs, and three-time World team member Brent Metcalf (Iowa City, Iowa/NYAC) who is No. 8 at 65 kg.


Clayton Foster (Laramie, Wyo./Grit WC) moved up to the No. 10 ranking at 86 kg/189 after previously being ranked at No. 11.


Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC), who previously sat at No. 16, is now ranked No. 15 at 125 kg.


Nick Marable (Morgantown, W. Va./Sunkist Kids) currently sits at the No. 11 spot at 70 kg/154 lbs.


Club teammates Dustin Schlatter (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) and Kevin LeValley (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) remain in the international rankings for April. Schlatter is No. 17 at 70 kg, and LeValley is No. 18 at 70 kg.


2014 Junior World silver medalist Aaron Pico (Whittier, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) is ranked No. 17 at 65 kg/143 lbs.


Past World Team member J.D. Bergman (Columbus, Ohio/NYAC) is ranked No. 17 at 97 kg/213 lbs.


Tony Ramos (Iowa City, Iowa/Titan Mercury WC/Hawkeye WC), who was a 2014 World Team member, is ranked No. 19 in the world at 57 kg/125.5 lbs.


2012 Olympic Trials runner-up Andrew Howe (Norman, Okla./NYAC) is currently ranked No. 20 at 86 kg.


The top-ranked freestyle wrestlers in the world in March were: Jong Hak-Jin of North Korea (57 kg), Aleksander Bogomoev of Russia (61 kg), Soslan Ramonov of Russia (65 kg), Khetik Tsabolov of Russia (70 kg), Denis Tsargush of Russia (74 kg), Abdulrashid Sadulaev of Russia (86 kg), Abdusalam Gadisov of Russia (97 kg) and Taha Akgul of Turkey (125 kg).
