But it wasn’t the color of medal he wanted.

The young star from California will have an opportunity to earn a gold medal this year after he won a FILA Cadet Nationals freestyle title on Sunday morning.

Olivas started strong in a convincing 10-0 win over Louie Hayes of Illinois in the finals at 46 kg/101.25 at the University of Akron Field House.

Olivas won a bronze medal at the 2013 Cadet Worlds in Greco-Roman. This time, he will represent Team USA in freestyle.

Champions in all the weight classes, except 125 kg, qualify for the FILA Cadet World Championships on July 15-20 in Snina, Slovakia.
