FARGO, N.D. – New Jersey’s Mason Manville is one win away from earning his second big title in the last week.
Manville, who won a Cadet World freestyle title six days ago in Slovakia, advanced to the Junior Nationals freestyle finals on Friday night at the Fargo Dome.
Manville will face New Jersey teammate David McFadden in the 152-pound finals on Saturday. McFadden beat Oklahoma’s Joe Smith, son of Oklahoma State coach John Smith, 8-4 in the semifinals.
The Junior Nationals finals, the final session of the eight-day, mega-event, are set for 10 a.m. Saturday in Fargo.
Two wrestlers – California’s Randon Miranda (100 pounds) and Arizona’s Danny Vega (106) – reached the finals to move within one victory of earning coveted USA Wrestling Triple Crowns.
Miranda and Vega captured Junior Nationals Greco titles on Tuesday in Fargo after winning Junior Folkstyle Nationals crowns earlier this year in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Minnesota’s Lance Benick, a Cadet Triple Crown winner in 2012, will meet Minnesota teammate Bobby Steveson in the 195 finals.
The finals matchup at 160 will match 2013 Junior freestyle champion Ryan Blees of North Dakota against 2014 FILA Junior Nationals freestyle champion Logan Massa of Michigan.
2013 Junior Nationals Greco champion Chandler Rogers of Oklahoma reached the finals at 170.
