No-Gi Grappling World Team Trials set for Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, Colo., August 30

The venue for the 2014 U.S. No-Gi Grappling World Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Saturday, August 30 will be Palmer High School.
This event will determine the U.S. Senior-level Grapplers who will represent the United States at the 2014 Pankration World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in the Pankration- Submission division (no-Gi Grappling), October 23-25.
Those who wish to participate are highly encouraged to register online in advance through TrackWrestling. The entry fee is $75 for online registration on TrackWrestling.com (through August 27). Onsite registration is $125.

FILA has retained its form of No-Gi Grappling, which is now officially called Pankration-Submission. The United States has been a World power in this style of Grappling since FILA began hosting competitions.
There are nine weight classes for men and five weight classes for women. Competition will be in the Senior division only, for athletes 20 and older. Athletes who are 18 or 19 can enter with a medical consent.
The Pankration World Championships is a self-funded tour, in which athletes must cover the cost of travel, room and board and competition fees. Champions at the U.S. No-Gi Grappling World Team Trials will be asked if they will attend the World Championships at the conclusion of the tournament.
The United States placed third as a team in No-Gi Grappling at the 2013 FILA World Championships in London, Canada, led by men’s champion Colby Covington at 77 kg. Winning silver medals were Brandon Ruiz at Over 100 kg and women’s star Bahar Shahidi at 53 kg. Bronze medals went to Matt Holt (63 kg), John Albert (66 kg) and Jayson Patino (71 kg).

Weight Classes Men: 57 kg (125.5 lbs), 62 kg (136.5 lbs.), 66 kg (145.5 lbs.), 71 kg (156 lbs.), 77 kg (169.5 lbs.), 84 kg (185 lbs.), 92 kg (202.5 lbs.), 100 kg (220 lbs.), Over 100 kg (unlimited)
Weight Classes Women: 53 kg (116.5 lbs.), 58 kg (127.5 lbs.), 64 kg (140.75 lbs.), 71 kg (156 lbs.), Over 71 kg (unlimited)
Entry Fee: $75 online ($125 on site)
Equipment: “Rashguard shall be tight fitting, with short or long sleeve, and contain at least 60% of the assigned color (either blue or red). Mixture of blue and red is forbidden. Board shorts shall either match the assigned color or of a neutral color (black, white, gray, etc.:) They shall not be excessively baggy or have pockets or buttons/snaps that may be unsafe during competition. Black compression shorts or pants worn under the board shorts is also permitted.”
