Pico soars in Senior level debut as Russia defeats USA 4-3

In the first of two USA versus Russia duals this weekend the Russian team emerged victorious over the United States by a score of four matches to three.

High school star Aaron Pico highlighted the dual for the Americans as he put on a dominant performance against Russian Alibeggadzhi Emeev winning by technical fall 8-0 at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.

Russian Omak Syuryun put Russia on the board early with a close 8-4 decision at 55 kg/121 lbs. over 2012 Olympian for the United States Sam Hazewinkel.

Aleksandr Bogomoev continued the trend for Russia as he put on an impressive display defeating Nick Simmons 8-0 at 60 kg/132 lbs.

American Moza Fay picked up a redemption win over Boris Makoev of Russia at 74 kg/163 lbs. Fay secured a fall by cradle over Makoev at the 1:34 mark in the first period reversing a Makoev victory over Fay last weekend at the NYAC International.

2013 U.S. World Team Member Keith Gavin fell by decision to Russia’s Vladislav Gabaraev 8-4. The Russian overcame a 4-2 deficit in the second period securing two late takedowns to win the bout and give the Russian’s a 3-2 lead in the team score.

2012 Cadet World Champion from Russia Georgii Gogaev impressed with a 10-2 decision over American Dustin Kilgore placing the dual out of reach for the United States.

Tyrell Fortune won the third and final match of the day for the United States defeating Russian Aleksandr Kusraev 2-0.

Prior to the USA versus Russia dual two women’s freestyle international exhibitions were wrestled between the United States and Canada with the American women both winning in impressive fashion.

American Jenna Burkert came out on all cylicnders against the Canadian star Michelle Fazzari securing a double-leg takedown to the back in the early seconds. Burkert finished Fazzari soon thereafter by fall in the first period.

Wrestling for the United States in her home high school, Alexis Porter defeated Canadian Keegin Collie by 7-0 technical fall.

The United States and Russia will clash once more tomorrow at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y at 1:00 p.m. The Ithaca dual will be streamed live on Flowrestling.org.
