ROSEMONT, Ill. – Big Ten wrestling begins the 2013-14 season this weekend, as four conference teams take the mat. Northwestern hosts the University of Chicago and Stevens Tech on Saturday, while Indiana, Nebraska and Ohio State are all in action on Sunday. The Hoosiers and Buckeyes head to Clarion, Pa., for the Clarion Open, while the Huskers will participate in the Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open in Brookings, S.D.
Michigan and Penn State open their 2013-14 campaigns on Nov. 16. The Wolverines travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., for the EMU Duals, while the three-time defending NCAA champion Nittany Lions head to Lawrenceville, N.J., to face Rider in a dual meet. Iowa will open its season on Nov. 22, when the Hawkeyes host the Iowa City Duals.
Nine teams enter the season ranked in the top 20 of the first InterMat College Rankings, including five in the top 10 and the first three spots in the poll. Penn State tops the ranking at No. 1, followed by No. 2 Iowa, No. 3 Minnesota, No. 7 Nebraska and No. 8 Wisconsin. Ohio State begins the season ranked No. 12, followed by No. 13 Illinois, No. 14 Michigan and No. 17 Northwestern.
