The Committee for the Preservation of Olympic Wrestling (CPOW) is releasing a series of public service announcements from a number of well-known celebrities who support the effort to Keep Wrestling in the Olympics.
These PSAs will be aired in numerous ways, including on major television networks, through online media platforms and at major wrestling and sports events and activities around the world.
The first set of PSAs will be released this week, featuring stars from many other Olympic sports who are stepping forward on behalf of Olympic wrestling.
These PSAs will feature:
· Legendary Olympic champion swimmer Mark Spitz
· Olympic gymnastics champions Bart Conner and Nadia Comaneci
· Hall of Fame baseball manager Tommy Lasorda
· Olympic swimming champion Janet Evans
· Professional boxing legends Armando Muniz and Carlos Palomino
Each day this week, CPOW will post one of these PSAs on the USA Wrestling YouTube Channel for the world to see and for fans to enjoy.
We start with the release of the PSA from Mark Spitz, who won seven gold medals in swimming in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. He set new World records in all seven of these events, a feat which has never been matched. He is considered one of the greatest Olympic athletes in history.
Additional PSAs are currently in production and will be released when completed. Included will be a number of celebrities from the entertainment industry and other walks of life.
The PSA series is being produced by Chuck Ashman of SMA Global.
"These public service announcements show the wide support for Olympic wrestling from the general public, including famous athletes in other sports and leaders in our society. Our intention is to show that wrestling is a popular and exciting sport which deserves its place on the Olympic program" said Roger Frizzell, the chairman of the Public Relations and Marketing Committee of CPOW.
