Penn State (6-0) remained No. 1 in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll released on Tuesdays. Unlike previous weeks, the Nittany Lions garnered all 10 first-place votes to be the unanimous selection. Coach Cael Sanderson’s team is fresh off a 31-6 win over Ohio State on Sunday, a match which saw true freshman Zain Retherford defeat two-time NCAA champion Logan Stieber 4-2 in sudden victory at 141 pounds.
The rest of the top six remained the same, as Minnesota (4-0), Iowa (6-0), Oklahoma (5-0), Oklahoma State (3-2) and Cornell (3-0) stayed put.
Iowa defeated Buffalo 46-0 last week. The Hawkeyes were bolstered by the return of All-American heavyweight Bobby Telford. Oklahoma State won two matches during a Western swing. The Cowboys shut out Northern Colorado 48-0 and topped another set of Cowboys, Wyoming, 30-6.
Ohio State dropped two spots to No. 9. There was only slight movement in the bottom portion of the Top 25 as Bloomsburg, Wisconsin, Oregon State and Rider shuffled around.
There will be one final poll for the 2013 calendar year next Tuesday.
