Texas I beats Michigan 36-21 to win Girls Junior National Folkstyle Duals

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- With a strong effort in the middle and upper weights, Texas I defeated Michigan 36-21 to win the title at the 2012 Girls Junior National Folkstyle Duals on Sunday at the Freede Center at Oklahoma City University.
Michigan jumped to a 15-6 lead in the championship dual meet, winning three of the first four bouts. Included was a technical fall at 121 pounds by two-time Junior Folkstyle National champion Rachel McFarland, who stopped Shelby Morrison, 20-5.
Patricia Martin scored a major decision victory at 105 pounds and Brook Harvey took a forfeit at 112 pounds to help put Michigan in the early lead. The first win for Texas came at 117 pounds, where Folkstyle Junior National runner-up Michelle Lomas scored a pin over Amber Smith.
Texas reeled off five straight wins to put the dual meet away. Included were pins by Evalynn Reyna at 125 pounds, Paige Wolf at 139 pounds and Folkstyle Junior National champion Ashley Miles at 159 pounds.
Reyna pinned Mary Smith in 4:32, Wolf pinned Olivia Cepak in 4:54 and Miles pinned Devan Burke in 1:24.
Other wins for Texas during the streak came from Kennon Hendreson (130) and Mikayla Mathews (148).
Michigan rebounded with a pin at 172 pounds by Brenna Ramirez. However, in the final match of the dual, Junior Folkstyle National champion Malexsis McAdoo pinned Kaitlyn Hill in 3:51 at 198 pounds.
Texas I and Michigan reached the finals after winning their pool competition.
Taking third was New York, with a 40-18 victory over Team Indiana.
Last year, California won the Junior National Folkstyle Duals, defeating Michigan in the finals, 42-15.
