Tellgren wins bronze medal at Vantaa Cup in Finland

VANTAA, Finland - Paul Tellgren (Anoka, Minn./Minnesota Storm) won a bronze medal 55 kg/121 lbs., the only U.S. medalist on the first day of the Vantaa Cup of Greco-Roman wrestling.
Tellgren defeated Thomas Ronningen of Norway in his bronze-medal match, 2-0, 0-3, 1-0.
Tellgren lost his opening match to Stepan Maryanyan of Russia, 0-7, 0-6. Maryanyan. A 2010 Junior World champion, went on to claim the gold medal.
Tellgren is a senior at Northern Michigan, studying secondary education and English. It is his third international medal of the new season, after winning a gold at the Sunkist Kids International and a silver at the New York AC Greco-Roman International.
Placing eighth for the United States was Jordan Holm (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 84 kg/185 lbs. Holm finished with a 2-1 record.
He opened with wins against Americans Ryan Hope and Courtney Myers, then was eliminated by Kristofer Johansson of Sweden in the third round, 2-2, 1-2.
The final three weight classes will be contested on Sunday, with more U.S. athletes in competition.
