USA Wrestling is continuing the exciting the National Team Coaching Apprentice Program, which is entering its second year. This program provide coaches the chance for professional growth with field experience on an international tour with a U.S. team.
Coaches will travel with a U.S. team competing in one of the three international disciplines (Greco-Roman, men's freestyle, women's freestyle). There are tour opportunities on the FILA Junior and Senior levels in each of the disciplines.
"This was a very well-received program last year and we are looking to generate interest for two trips this coming summer and fall" said Cody Bickley, Manager of the National Coaches Education Program. "The first is with the FILA Junior World Championships in Budapest, Hungary and the second is with the Senior World Championships in Moscow, Russia."
Bickley believes adding the Senior World Championships to the program will encourage more coaches to participate.
"Last year's CAP attendees traveled to Ankara, Turkey for the Junior World Championships and gained invaluable knowledge and experience. By adding the possibility of attending the Senior Worlds in Moscow; we hope to entice more coaches with this fantastic opportunity," said Bickley.
Coaches pay for all costs associated with the trip. Coaches selected will be required to attend pre-competition training camp. They will be responsible for all costs associated with their attendance at training camp (housing at the U.S. Olympic Training Center will be determined upon availability).
Those in the Coaching Apprentice Program will be an official member of the USA delegation and included in all events and activities associated with the competition. They will receive an official team gear package with the trip.
To be eligible, a coach must have attended a USA Wrestling Silver College within the NCEP program, and be progressing toward a Silver or Gold level certification. Coaches must also apply for the USA Wrestling Coaches Pool to be considered for the program.
Coaches who attend a tour as an Apprentice Coach will receive two NCEP credits for their field experience, and will be required to turn in a log of the experience to earn the credits.
The Junior World Championships will be held in Budapest, Hungary, July 20-25. The Senior World Championships will be held in Moscow, Russia, September 6-12.
Coaching Apprentice Programs will be available in all three international disciplines.
The application deadline for this program is June 1, 2010 for the summer competition in Hungary and June 15, 2010 for fall competition in Moscow. Coaches will need a deposit of $1,500 to cover the cost of the visa and the airfare upfront. The remaining balance is due prior to departure. There are no refunds on deposits. Tentative costs for the trips would be $2,500 for Budapest and $2,800 for Moscow. These costs include flight, transportation at event, hotel, and meals.
The final approval of Apprentice Coaches will be determined by a committee of the National Team Staff and the Manager of the NCEP.

If there is enough interest for both; we will look to accommodate both events. PLEASE MAKE CONTACT WITH ME BY MAY 31, 2010 AS TO WHICH TRIP YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND."
