Under the qualifying procedures for the World Team Trials in freestyle wrestling this year, the National Freestyle Coach may nominate as many as 10 athletes as wildcards for the World Team Trials.
All athletes who wish to be considered for a wildcard selection must notify National Freestyle Coach Zeke Jones by 12:00 noon Mountain Time on Tuesday, May 18 that they wish to be considered for a wildcard.
The athlete must send Coach Jones information on why they should be selected as a wildcard, including the weight class that they will compete, the reason they did not earn a spot through the qualification process, as well as their past competition results.
Send your wildcard request via e-mail to:
ZJones@usawrestling.org
The wildcard selections will be made after the final qualifying event is completed, which is this weekend's Northern Plains Senior Freestyle Regional Championships.
The wildcard nominations by the National Freestyle Coach will be reviewed and approved by a three-member sub-committee headed by the chairperson of the Freestyle Sport Committee.
The sub-committee does not have to fill all 10 wildcard spots, and there may be multiple wildcards in a specific weight class.
The wildcards will be available in men's freestyle only.
USA Wrestling expects to be able to announce the freestyle wildcards by Wednesday, May 19.
