The Cadet Greco-Roman competition kicked off the 40th ASICS/Vaughan Junior and Cadet Nationals Championships on Sunday morning at the FargoDome.

The seven-day event is being held on 23 mats at the FargoDome on the campus of North Dakota State University.

Akers won his first match by decision on Sunday. Richards won his first two matches by technical fall. Pierce won his first two matches by decision. Black won his first match by technical fall.

The second session is set for 3:30 p.m. Central Time in Fargo. The finals are scheduled for Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

The Cadet Nationals feature the nation's best 15-16 year olds.

The Junior Nationals competition in Greco-Roman will begin Monday morning at 9:30.

Wrestlers who won titles at the Folkstyle Nationals earlier this year are in the running to win Triple Crowns in Fargo. They would need to pull off the Greco-Roman and freestyle double in Fargo to accomplish the rare feat.

Three wrestlers - Michigan's Taylor Massa, Minnesota's Jake Waste and Wisconsin's Devin Peterson - won Cadet Triple Crowns in 2009.
