Thielke wins showdown of Junior World Team members; Coleman named OW at FILA Junior Nationals for Greco-Roman

CLEVELAND "" Jesse Thielke's first trip to the Junior World Championships didn't go the way he planned.
He lost his first-round match in the 2009 Junior Worlds and fell short of placing in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Thielke plans on changing his fortunes this year.
Thielke looked dominant in downing past Junior World Team member Tyler Cox of Wyoming 6-3, 6-0 in the FILA Junior Nationals finals on Thursday night at Cleveland State's Wolstein Center
"I felt good" said Thielke, a high school junior from Germantown, Wis. "I felt like I could score from any position I wanted. I played it safe a couple times. I didn't want to risk it. I just wanted to get that title."
Thielke, who owns numerous USA Wrestling national titles, took charge early and piled up plenty of points in the finals win at 55 kg/121 lbs.
"(Cox) is a good wrestler" Thielke said. "He knows what he's doing out there. It was a pretty good match overall."
The champions in each of the seven Olympic weight classes, plus 50 kg/110 lbs., advance to the best-of-3 finals for May's FILA Junior World Team Trials in Colorado Springs. The top six wrestlers in each of those weight classes advance to the Junior World Team Trials.
Thielke's next step will be making his second straight Junior World Team.
"You've got to go out there and score (at Junior Worlds)" he said. "You can't be passive. You have to be hungry and try to win in a dominating fashion. That's what I was doing out there today."
Thielke also is entered in the U.S. Open against Senior-level wrestlers. He will be back on the mat Friday morning against World and Olympic hopefuls.
"I am just going to wrestle my hardest" he said, "and let it play out on the mat."
2009 Junior World Team members Max Nowry and Jimmy Chase also won titles on Thursday. Nowry was sixth at Junior Worlds last year and Chase placed fifth.
Nowry won by technical fall over Nick Roberts in the finals at 50 kg/110 lbs. Chase won by decision over Justin LaValle in the finals at 60 kg/132 lbs.
Wrestlers who also won titles on Thursday included Daniel Osterman at 63 kg/138.75 lbs., Ellis Coleman at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Tyler Sheridan at 70 kg/154 lbs., Alec Ortiz at 74 kg/163 lbs., Micah Kullman at 79 kg/174 lbs., Mark Stenberg at 84 kg/185 lbs., Robert Barbour at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. and Steve Andrus at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.
Nowry, Chase and Stenberg repeated as FILA Junior Nationals champions. Stenberg beat 2009 Junior World Team member Ben Provisor in the finals.
Coleman was named Outstanding Wrestler.
One of the better consolation matches of the day came at 55 kg/121 lbs. when Montana's Val Rauser downed twin brother Jade Rauser in a match that went three periods. Jade was unable to turn Val in the final 30 seconds in par terre.
Jade Rauser won a USA Wrestling Triple Crown in Juniors last year. Val Rauser placed second in Fargo in Greco-Roman and freestyle. Val placed sixth on Thursday. Jade fell short of placing in his first season of FILA Junior competition.
