LeCuyer, Scott win titles at U.S. Grappling World Team Trials in Gi Grappling

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Tom LeCuyer (Plano, Ill./Atlas XT/Torres MA) captured the 66 kg/145.5 lbs. title in Gi Grappling, to complete a sweep of victories at the U.S. Grappling World Team Trials on Saturday.
LeCuyer defeated runner-up Rudy Fischmann (Wander Braga), 2-1 in the deciding bout in his roundrobin. Earlier, LeCuyer stopped Pedro Torres (unattached), 3-1.
LeCuyer also won the No-Gi division at his weight class on Friday, sweeping both titles for the weekend.
He was third in No-Gi and ninth in Gi at the 2008 World Grappling Championships in Switzerland.
The U.S. Grappling World Team Trials is the qualifying event for the U.S. team which will compete at the FILA Grappling World Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., December 11-13.
Also winning a three-athlete roundrobin in the men's Gi competition was Matthew Scott (American Top Team), who won both of his bouts by submission. He stopped Derek Darling (Welcome Matt) in 39 seconds and Michael Kelly (Gilbert Grappling) in 46 seconds.
