Four U.S. freestyle wrestlers will form a dual meet team and compete against other international teams at the Intercontinental Cup in Khasavyurt, Russia, Oct. 17-19.
Among the U.S. team members at the event is 2008 Olympian Andy Hrovat (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
Bryce Hasseman (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC), who was second at the 2009 U.S. World Team Trials, will compete at 84 kg/185 lbs.
Also competing on the U.S. team will be Lloyd Rogers (Iowa City, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Les Sigman (State College, Pa./Sunkist Kids) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.
The tournament will feature a Russian national team, along with teams from other countries, as well as a team representing the Russian republic of Dagestan.
The United States team will need to win all four matches in order to win any of their dual meets, because they did not field a full seven-athlete team in the event.
National Freestyle Coach Zeke Jones is pleased that the athletes are entering in this event and gaining valuable international experience through training and competition.
"This is the launch of the new season," said Jones. "It will be good preparation for the four wrestlers there. They also have a four-day training camp with Russian athletes prior to the competition. We are seeking good results from all four athletes. They are all capable of doing well there."
