It is with great regret that I am writing to inform you of the passing of Stan Bishop. Stan was a Charter member of the Friends of Long Island Wrestling and the Long Island Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. He had been fighting a battle with leukemia and passed away November 14th while at South Nassau Hospital.

Stan will be remembered for his love of family and his love of wrestling.

He coached with Harold Earl while on the faculty of Valley Stream Central High School. Following his retirement, Stan joined our organization. He was an inspirational member of the Board of Directors and was our corporate secretary.

Stan's good nature and sense of humor was always at the ready. He was Bill Brennen's partner in putting our annual magazine "The Long Island Wrestling Guide" together, writing the articles that needed to be written, correcting grammar, and placing commas where they belonged. Stan's training and experience as an English teacher made him a perfect editor and his love of the sport allowed him to bring a fresh look to each article he wrote.

Stan was proud of his Pennsylvania heritage, and he brought a farm boy's insight and loyalty to Long Island Wrestling. He was ready to discuss wrestling where ever he went. His appearance at wrestling events, sporting his blazer with the "Friends of Wrestling" emblazoned on the pocket over his heart, clearly spoke of his interest and his love of the kids he had the opportunity to work with. Stan particularly enjoyed working with an organization dedicated to encouraging young wrestlers and recognizing the history of our sport.

Memorial Services will be held at the Malverne Community Presbyterian Church, 12 Nottingham Road, Malverne, NY, on Saturday, November 21st at 2:30 PM.
