UNI leads in Western Regional Championships with six finalists

Greeley, CO - After the completion of the semi-final round, Northern Iowa is clinging to a narrow lead at the Western Regional Championships with 67 points. Wyoming and Northern Colorado are close behind, with 55 ½ and 52 points, respectively.
Paced with a tournament most six finalists, Brad Penrith's Panthers are looking to repeat as WWC Champions. Both Wyoming and Northern Colorado have five wrestlers in the finals, so the tournament is far from over.
Tyler Sorenson, 197, and Jason Stripling, 285, both won their semi-final matches. The South Dakota State pair will both be pitted against Northern Iowa wrestlers in the finals.
Air Force Academy's Stephen Crozier, a 2008 NCAA qualifier, is the lowest seeded wrestler to advance to the finals. Crozer, the fourth seed, upset Northern Iowa's top seeded Jarion Betts. Crozier is the Falcons' lone finalist.
The last finalist is North Dakota State's number-one seed Ryan Adams. Adams has won two matches today in his march to the finals.
Every champion of the WWC will earn a spot at the 2009 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, which will be held March 19-21 in St. Louis, MO. In addition to the champions, the second place finishers at 149, 184, and 197 will also qualify for the National Championships.
