"The Georgia Grind tournament will provide youth wrestlers from across the southeast and the nation a first-class opportunity to showcase their skill," Steve Beuning, coordinator of national events, said. "Registration is rapidly increasing hour by hour as we near the deadline Thursday night."
States represented as of Monday include Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Wyoming, Connecticut, New Jersey, Missouri, Washington, Indiana, Michigan, Utah, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. Over 250 wrestlers have already registered, and many more are expected. Traditionally, a large number of athletes register online during the final week. For more tournament information, visit www.usafolkstyle.com.
The Georgia Grind is a part of the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Tour of America, presented by Dollamur Sport Surfaces.
Intermediate, Novice and Middle school divisions well be watched closely, as they are a part of the new U.S. Future Olympian Rankings. The program is designed to recognize the performance of America's most talented wrestlers, based upon actual results in major USA Wrestling events.
The Folkstyle Tour of America gives young aspiring wrestlers the opportunity to compete against the best in America. USA Wrestling recognizes the need to offer opportunities outside the traditional Olympic styles of wrestling and continues to make strides towards providing opportunities in folkstyle wrestling. The goals of the Series are to create interest and attract new members who previously only recognized USA Wrestling as a freestyle and Greco-Roman organization; to provide USA Wrestling membership with quality and consistent folkstyle events on a national level; and to enhance and expand USA Wrestling's event programming.
